My Rihanna Playlist

Rihanna at a 2013 festival in Barbados
Hard-THIS. IS. MY ISH. I'm addicted to the aggression in it. However, I think some of the lyrics are better suited for my queen diva, Beyonce`, no shade.
Rehab
A Rihanna playlist has been much requested and those who closely follow my blog may be surprised I can even muster one up (my musical opinion of her isn't very high), but believe it or not, there's a couple of songs from the Barbadian beauty I really enjoy. Rihanna's talent level may be debatable, but I think most can agree that her record label makes sure she gets tracks that are infectious and, sometimes, very well written, like "Russian Roulette" & "Stay." I'm so taken with "Unfaithful," I wish another singer would've gotten it till this day. Can you imagine someone with pipes singing it? Epic. Anyhow, here's my list :)
Disturbia- My favorite Rihanna song, period the end, hands down. I love psychotic and frenetic with a touch seduction lol.
(Piano Version) Love the Way You Lie- Most adore the original Eminem edition with Rihanna as a featured artist, but I would take Rihanna solo on this halting, heart-rending version any day. Bravo to writers for creating possibly one the most emotionally-provoking and painful lyrics penned in this decade.

My Kanye West Playlist

All Falls Down-I could make a top ten list of reasons I love this track, but one reason is that it samples an unreleased Lauryn Hill song that she performed on MTV Unplugged.
One of the more interesting things about Kanye West is that for every ounce of public arrogance & immaturity he has, there's an ounce of brilliance. He's so brilliant, that despite having just under 10 years on his resume`, he's a contender for a hip-hop throne. I believe his sharp musical ear (he was a producer before he was a signed act), candid nature & honesty are what make West appealing to his audience. Here's a list of some of my favorite Yeezy cuts. I intentionally tried to pick songs some may not know (with the exception of a few). West's new album, "Yeezus," drops June 18th.
Spaceship-Anyone who's worked for pennies or check to check w/ a jerk boss can relate to this song. "If boss insults me again, I will be assaulting him."
Crack Music
Bring Me Down ft. Brandy-"Everybody wanna run to me for their single...wasn't around when I couldn't feed myself.."
Celebration-One of the few senseless songs Kanye has done; yet, it't my guilty pleasure.

Everything I Am-"I'll never be as light as Beyonce`...everybody sayin "if was not for him," but everything I'm not made me everything I am."
(Prelude Instrumental) All of the Lights- This prelude is so dark, haunting & beautiful all at the same time; fitting its album's title. It's breathtaking. I listen to it by itself all the time.
We Don't Care- "We weren't supposed to make it past 25, the jokes on you, we're still alive."
Roses-Kanye lets us in often, believe it or not. Here, he tells the story of losing his grandmother. Shout-out to Patti Labelle, who's featured on the track.
Addiction-"Why everything that's supposed to be bad make me feel so good?"
I Wonder-"You say I think I'm never wrong; you know what? Maybe you're right, aight?"
Power-This song makes me feel like the Incredible Hulk. Love yet another DC reference to Kelly Rowland. My favorite line is "They said I was an abomination of Obama's nation, well, that's a pretty bad way to start a conversation." Speaks volumes.
Blame Game ft. John Legend-This was the soundtrack to my life at one point. Needless to say it was a dark time.

My American Idol Divas Playlist!

L-R Kelly Clarkson & Fantasia, Idol Finale 2010
I'm a self-professed "American Idol" watcher. Most music nerds don't find it to be a producer of great music, but I totally beg to differ. Voting politics have gotten in the way of the most talented person winning the contest, but America has gotten it right before. I have many favorite female contestants, 2 of which (Tamyra Gray & LaToya London) should be much bigger than what they are, but that's another conversation. Here's a short list of songs I LOVE from Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia (who has new album out!), Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson & Katharine McPhee. Enjoy.
Katharine McPhee-Love Story
Jennifer Hudson-All Dressed in Love (Sex & The City SDTK).
Katharine-Not Your Girl. Kat's debut album is pretty lovely; check it out.

Playlist: Beyonce's Best (Some of Them)

One of my fave pics of Beyonce`-1999ish
Dangerously in Love- The version on Destiny's Child's "Survivor" is so much better than the one on Bey's solo debut of the same name. This is probably the most impressive song Beyonce's ever written & she wrote it at 17.
Considering Beyonce` is my queen diva, I have many favorite songs of hers, but for this playlist I narrowed them down to those I find the most artistically strong in terms of delivery, lyrics and/or concept.
Me, Myself & I-The live version from the "Beyonce` Experience Tour" is>>>>>>
Resentment-Beyonce` has been accused of not evoking much emotion vocally, but this is evidence of otherwise. She sings with so much conviction, you could have 0 experience with infidelity & be curled up in a corner crying when you hear this.

My Lady Gaga Playlist

Gaga, ooh la la
I know Lady Gaga only has 2 studio albums and 1 EP, but here are some of my absolute favorite cuts.
Marry the Night-Gaga described this song as marriage between Whitney Houston & Bruce Springsteen & I can totally hear it. This song has such an uplifting energy; I wrote a pretty decent song for the 1st time listening to this one.
Brown Eyes-Gaga has some really good (and sad) breakup songs.

Mariah Carey Playlist: Underrated & Unorothdox

Rub a dub dub... (Courtesy of MariahJournal)
I named the following playlist "Underrated & Unorthodox" to one, obviously highlight tracks I deem to be underrated, and two, because as with Whitney Houston, I love all the classic songs and huge hits (ex. "Hero," "Fantasy"), but some of my ultimate favorites are rather unorthodox choices. Enjoy.
BabyDoll-This song has everything. I love how it burns with both lust AND loneliness; the torture of unrequited love. The play between innocence (i.e. babydoll) and sensuality is tasty too.
Bliss-*Whispers* Mariah Carey has baby makers in her discography. Don't believe she can pull it off? Take a listen. MC kills softly with this one. Prepare be to tantalized and a few other things lol....
Heartbreaker Rx ft. Missy Elliott & DaBrat- Guess who's back in the mutha f'n house! Just play the record, Clue. This is my ish!!! I live for the rap verses.

RuPaul Playlist: Don't Be Jealous of My Boogie

Don't be a drag, just be a queen
If you're not of a certain age or demographic, you may not know that entertainer RuPaul has studio albums. No, you won't hear a voice like Barbara Streisand or the lyrical depth of Bob Dylan, but Ru can carry a tune and give you some fun, hilarious and even inspiring jams. You can catch the delightful "RuPaul's DragRace" weekly on LOGO or on the network's website.
Devil Made Me Do It
Tranny Chaser-THIS IS MY ISH!!!! My favorite line is "So the hunter got captured by the prey, it ain't the first time a player got played, won't be the last time you hear a t-girl say "You want it wet, then you betta make it rain"" LOL!
Click Clack (Make Dat Money)

Britney Spears: The Dark, Sexy & Sad Playlist

Britney Spears by Markus Klinko
As I said in my article on how I became a music nerd, Britney Spears is my guilty pleasure. I tend to listen to Spears the most when I'm feeling nostalgic (she came out when I was 13), about to hit the streets, or in a sultry mood. Some of her songs that I'm most attracted to are those that have a R&B, sensual and/or dusky twist (I love how on every album, Britney has at least 1 song that can appeal to an urban audience). Here's a compilation of those (I had to use some fan-made videos because Vevo doesn't allow importing. Jerks).
